U.S. Air Force Maj. Jared Hand parks his F-16 Fighting Falcon after combat training during Red Flag-Alaska 12-2 on Eielson Air Force Base.
Hand is assigned to the 77th Fighter Squadron, Shaw Air Force Base, S.C.
Red Flag-Alaska is a joint tactical air combat employment exercise which corresponds to the operational capability of participating units. The entire exercise takes place in the Joint Pacific Range Complex over Alaska as well as a portion of Western Canadian for a total airspace of more than 67,000 square miles.
Participants and their aircraft in the invitation-only exercise come from Australia (E-7A Wedgetail), C-130H and C-130J); Germany (Eurofighter Typhoon); Japan (F-15J Strike Eagle); Poland (C-130 Hercules); and South Korea.
In addition to the 77th Fighter Squadron, American participants included personnel and aircraft from Florida and Alaska.
