A LOOK AHEAD: Military Energy Resources, Military Reporters and Editors, AUSA, ONR hold conferences this month

Busy October

No matter what aspect of defense one follows — Navy, Army, Air Force, Marines, technology, energy security — October will be a very busy month with several top government officials and experts from key industries speaking at conference around Washington, D.C.

Here’s a sampling:

Oct. 10-12IDGA Future Power Summit. Senior officials from the Army, Navy, Air Force and Marines will address efforts the services are making to cut their energy use and develop green technologies at the Future Power Summit at the Alexandria Mark Center in Alexandria, Virginia. We’ve posted on some of the issues in the past affecting the Navy and Army here at 4GWAR. The event is sponsored by the Institute for Defense and Government Advancement (IDGA).

Oct. 18-19Military Reporters and Editors (MRE) : Army Chief of Staff Gen. Raymond Odierno and the incoming head of the National Guard, Lt. Gen. Frank Grass are among the speakers coming to address the annual meeting of MRE, the professional association of military journalists. Other speakers from the services as well as budget experts and a former military and foreign policy adviser to President George W. Bush and Mitt Romney are also slated to speak at the event in downtown D.C. and on Capitol Hill. For details click here.

Oct. 22-24Association of the U.S. Army (AUSA): The AUSA’s annual conference and exhibition, one of the biggest — if not the biggest — military gatherings, runs for three days at the Washington Convention Center. Most major defense contractors will be on display from ground vehicles to the latest in small arms, armored clothing and sensor systems will be on display in the exhibit hall. Speakers are expected to include Gen. Raymond Odierno, the Army Chief of Staff and and Army Secretary John McHugh.

Oct. 22-24 — The 2012 Naval Science and Technology Partnership Conference is another big conference that runs for three days in late October at the Hyatt Regency Crystal City in Arlington, Virginia. Sponsored by the Office of Naval Research, the gathering brings together naval leaders and nearly 1,000 attendees from industry, academia and other government agencies. Speakers include Dr. John  Holdren, policy director for the White House Office of Science & Technology, Vice Chief of Naval Operations Adm. Mark Ferguson, Marine Corps Commandant Gen. James Amos and chief of Naval Research, Vice Adm. Matthew Klunder.
