This photo shows Navy Petty Officer 3rd Class  (PO3) Amber Ferguson participating in a suspension training class in the gym at Naval Station Everett in Everett, Washington last month ( Dec. 18, 2012) . Ferguson is an engineman assigned to the aircraft carrier USS Nimitz. Sailors who participated in the two-day training class earned a certification to instruct resistance workouts aboard the ship. If you click on the engineman job description, you’ll see it’s a demanding Navy post, requiring a lot of committment to make it to PO3.

We confess we were intrigued by the look of grim determination (Yes we can. Yes we will!) on this young sailor’s face. Click on the photo to enlarge.

A U.S. Marine Corps CH-53E Super Stallion helicopter lifts an M777 howitzer over Helmand province, Afghanistan.  The huge, three-engine Super Stallion is capable of lifting 16 tons at sea level and carrying the load more than 50 miles and back. The  helo in this photo is assigned to Marine Heavy Helicopter Squadron 361, Marine Aircraft Group 16, 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing.
