To the Rescue.
For all they do, we don’t run nearly enough photos of the U.S. Coast Guard in action, so here’s one.
An MH-65 Dolphin rescue helicopter crew hoisted an ill fisherman from the deck of the Coast Guard Cutter Willow about 60 miles east of Atlantic City, New Jersey on January 11, 2018.
Willow, a 225-foot seagoing buoy tender based in Newport, Rhode Island, was directed by Coast Guard officials to the fishing boat Illusion and took the man aboard for transfer to the helicopter.
An MH-65 Dolphin brought the patient to Atlanticare Regional Medical facility in Pomona, New Jersey, according to a Coast Guard press statement. To see a brief video of the medevac operation click here.

In the Red.
In case you forgot, there’s still a shooting war going on in Afghanistan, although U.S. troops are deployed largely in advisory and support roles.
As a reminder, here we see U.S. soldiers firing an 81 mm mortar to support Afghan soldiers during Operation Maiwand 10 in Helmand province, Afghanistan, on December 26, 2017. The U.S. soldiers — assigned to Company A, 2nd Battalion, 501st Parachute Infantry Regiment — fired multiple illumination rounds to light the nearby area of Marjah, in southern Afghanistan, where Afghan soldiers encountered a nighttime ambush.
