Rub-a-dub-dub

The three men in this tub are U.S. Marines from the 1st Battalion, 4th Marine Regiment. They’re returning in an amphibious assault vehicle (AAV) to the USS Dubuque, a U.S. Navy Austin-class amphibious transport dock ship (LPD 8). The Marines and the Dubuque conducted interoperability field training exercises with Indonesian marines during Marine Exercise 2010 (Marex 2010) in and around East Java. Marex 2010, which ran from June 19 to June 26, included 496 Indonesian Marines and 660 U.S. Marines as well as more than a dozen AAVs and helicopters. Marex is designed to provide training to the Indonesian military and build relationships to maintain regional stability.
